CommunicAI Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 8th, 2026

CommunicAI is a communication app for couples. It is operated by Brandon Burns, a sole proprietor based in California who does business under the name BurnsDev (“we,” “us,” “our”). BurnsDev is a brand name, not a separate company. This policy explains what information the CommunicAI iOS app and its iMessage extension collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

The short version: we collect only what the app needs to work. We do not sell your information, we do not show ads, and we do not use analytics or tracking tools. Your conversations are visible only to you and your paired partner, and AI rewriting is done by Google on our behalf, not stored by us.

1. Information we collect

Information you give us

Category What it includes
Account information Your email address and password (passwords are handled by Firebase Authentication and never seen by us). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, Google account ID and a link to your Google profile picture from Google. If you sign in with Apple, we receive an Apple account ID, the email address you choose to share (which may be a private Apple relay address) and, the first time only, your name.
Profile and preferences The name you choose, your main goal for using the app, and your preferred tone (for example “soft” or “direct”).
Partner pairing Your 6-digit pairing code and, once you pair, a link between your account and your partner’s account.
Messages Chat messages you send your partner, emoji reactions, and whether you are currently typing.
Exercise answers Your written answers to relationship exercises, stored with the exercise title.
Mood check-ins The mood you select, the date of your last check-in, and your check-in streak.
Reports If you report one of your partner’s messages, we keep the report so we can review it: the reported message’s text and when it was sent, the reason you chose, and the account IDs of you and your partner.
Text you ask the AI to rewrite Drafts you submit in the chat, the Translator tab, or the iMessage extension. See section 2.

Information collected automatically

Category What it includes
Push notification token A device token from Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple so we can send you notifications. Stored only if you allow notifications.
Device integrity check Apple App Attest and DeviceCheck, through Firebase App Check, confirm requests come from a genuine copy of the app. This creates an attestation for your app install, not a profile of you.
Usage counters How many AI rewrites you used today, how many pairing codes you tried today and how many reports you sent today, so we can enforce daily limits. Your account creation date.
Service logs Our servers keep technical logs (for example your account ID, the time of a request, and whether a notification was delivered) to run and secure the service. Google, which hosts our backend, may also log IP addresses.
Purchase information Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple. We never receive your payment card or billing details. When you subscribe, the app sends us Apple’s signed transaction record so we can confirm it. We store the subscription’s transaction ID, product, environment and expiry date, linked to your account.

What we do not collect

We do not collect your contacts, photos, location, microphone, health data, or advertising identifier. In the iMessage extension, the app only sees the draft you type into it; it does not read your iMessage conversations. We do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.

2. How AI rewriting works

When you tap to rewrite a message, our server sends the following to Google’s Gemini model through Google Cloud Vertex AI:

The Translator tab and the iMessage extension send only the draft, with no conversation history.

We do not save your drafts or the AI’s suggestions. A suggestion only becomes a message if you choose to send it. Google processes this data on our behalf to generate the suggestion and may retain it briefly to operate and secure its service, but under Google Cloud’s terms it does not use it to train its models.

AI suggestions can be wrong; you decide what to send. CommunicAI is not therapy or counseling and is not a substitute for professional help. CommunicAI is not for emergencies. If you are in danger or experiencing abuse, contact local emergency services or a crisis line such as the National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-7233).

3. How we use information

We use the information above only to:

  1. create and secure your account and keep you signed in across the app and the iMessage extension;
  2. pair you with your partner and show each of you the shared chat, exercises, names and moods;
  3. deliver messages and send notifications, such as a new message from your partner or a reminder that it is your turn to answer an exercise;
  4. provide AI rewriting and enforce free-tier and service-wide daily limits;
  5. verify your subscription, apply premium to you and your paired partner, and handle renewals and refunds Apple tells us about;
  6. prevent abuse, such as fake app requests or guessing pairing codes, and fix problems;
  7. respond to your requests and meet legal obligations.

We do not use your information for advertising, we do not build marketing profiles, and we do not sell or “share” personal information as those terms are defined in California law.

What your partner can see. Once paired, your partner can see your display name, your current mood and check-in streak, every message and reaction in your shared chat, your exercise answers, your goal and tone preferences, and whether you have an active subscription. Your partner’s copy of the app can also read the rest of your profile record (such as your pairing code and app settings), though the app does not display it. Notifications may show the text of a message on your partner’s lock screen, depending on their device settings.

4. Who we share information with

We share information only with the service providers below, who process it on our behalf to run the app, and with your paired partner as described above.

Provider What they do Information involved
Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging, App Check) Hosts accounts, the database and server code; delivers notifications Everything stored by the app, push tokens, service logs
Google Cloud Vertex AI (Gemini) Generates rewrite suggestions Drafts, preferences and, from the chat screen, recent messages (section 2)
Google Sign-In Lets you sign in with your Google account Name, email, Google account ID
Apple (App Store, StoreKit, Sign in with Apple, App Attest, DeviceCheck, Push Notification service) Sells and bills subscriptions, lets you sign in with your Apple account, verifies app integrity, carries notifications to your device Purchase records, Apple account ID and shared email/name, attestation, notification content

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the safety or rights of users or others, or as part of a transfer of the app to a new owner. That includes the planned move of CommunicAI to a business entity owned by the current operator; this policy would continue to apply and we would update the operator details here.

5. How long we keep information

We keep your account, profile, messages, exercise answers and mood data until you delete your account. Unpairing does not delete your shared conversation; it stays stored and reappears if you pair with the same partner again.

Drafts sent for AI rewriting are not stored by us. Daily usage counters reset each day. Reports are kept after either account is deleted, so we can finish reviewing them and keep a record of safety problems. Service logs are kept for about 30 days. Subscription records are deleted when you delete your account. Apple keeps its own purchase records under Apple’s privacy policy.

6. Deleting your account and data

You can delete your account in the app under Settings > Delete Account, or by emailing brandonburnsdev@gmail.com from the address on your account. When you delete your account, we delete your login, profile, mood data, push tokens, pairing code and subscription records, and the shared chat and exercise answers between you and your partner. Your partner will lose access to that conversation. Reports you made, or that were made about you, are kept as described in section 5.

In-app deletion is immediate. Service logs may remain for up to 30 days before they expire. Requests by email are completed within 30 days, except for records we must keep by law.

Deleting your account does not cancel your Apple subscription. Cancel it in your iPhone’s Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions, or from CommunicAI’s Settings screen.

7. Security

Data is encrypted in transit and stored on Google’s infrastructure, which encrypts data at rest. Database rules allow only the two accounts in a conversation to read it, and sensitive fields such as subscription status can be changed only by our server. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password and tell us right away if you suspect a problem.

8. Children

CommunicAI is intended for adults 18 and older and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Your privacy rights

Wherever you live, you can view and edit your profile in the app, delete your account at any time, and turn off notifications in your iPhone’s settings. You can also email us to ask for a copy of your information or to correct it.

California residents. We give California residents the rights described in the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended, whether or not that law applies to a business of our size. You have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose; to get a copy of it; to correct it; and to delete it. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we use any sensitive information (such as your account login or the contents of your messages) only to provide the app. We will not discriminate against you for using these rights. You or an authorized agent can make a request at brandonburnsdev@gmail.com; we will verify your identity by confirming the request comes from your account email. In the past 12 months we collected the categories listed in section 1 (identifiers, commercial information about your subscription, the content of your messages and answers, and inferences such as your mood) from you and your device, for the purposes in section 3, and disclosed them only to the providers in section 4.

California’s “Shine the Light” law (Civil Code section 1798.83) lets California residents ask which personal information a business disclosed to third parties for their direct marketing. We do not disclose personal information to anyone for their direct marketing.

Do Not Track. The app does not track you across other apps or websites, so it does not respond differently to Do Not Track signals.

Users in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom. Brandon Burns is the controller of your personal data. We process it to perform our contract with you (providing the app and your subscription), for our legitimate interests in securing the service and preventing abuse, and to meet legal obligations. Messages and exercise answers may reveal information about your relationship, sex life or sexual orientation, which is special category data; we process that only with your explicit consent, which you give when you choose to write it in the app, and you can withdraw it at any time by deleting the content or your account. You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing of your data, and to receive it in a portable format. Your data is processed in the United States and other countries where Google and Apple operate; those transfers rely on the providers’ Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. You can contact us at brandonburnsdev@gmail.com and you may complain to your local data protection authority.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the new version at this page and update the effective date. If the change is significant, we will also tell you in the app before it takes effect.
